ZACH'S SHACK
irrelevant but entertaining...to me
The Purpose of this little trifling slice of web space the same as most personal web pages you visit--just a form of cyber-self-gratification.  Also, I've had a site up in the past which gained a hardcore fanatical following of, oh, 6 or 8 people, obviously easily amused (you know who you are), who have begged and cajoled me to get back on the WWW.  They share hobbies and interests of mine, and are apparently lost and without direction in the absence of their easily begged and cajoled HTML beacon in cyberspace.  So here it is.  I'll publish what I'm up to, what I think, no guarantees or promises.  Except that I will not overload your poor computers with a bunch of cutesy, artsy-fartsy, superfluous, gee-aren't-I-clever java, plug-ins, mega-graphics, etc. etc.  I hate that stuff.  I used to be guilty of web page fluffery (especially those supremely annoying midi plug-ins), but I repent and renounce now and forever more!  At least for now.
For those other than the cadre of dedicated but underemployed fans I mentioned above and take for granted, Welcome, have a browse!  But please don't let it interfere with your personal or professial lives.  It's not worth it, trust me.
For those of you who are keeping track,  here's what I've been up to lately when not at work:  My primary hobby right now is Amateur Radio, which is new since I was last had a web site.  If you don't know anything about ham radio, here's a link to my new FAQ.  As a long time shortwave, scanner, & AM broadcast listener, I decided it was time to start transmitting.  A close second, maybe soon a tie, is the home brewing of beer, particularly traditional pales ales and Irish stout.  I've also gotten into roasting coffee lately, and maybe I can turn some of you on to that.  If you like your coffee really fresh,  home roasting is the way to go.  Next, those of you who know me know how I enjoy political & philosophical discussion.  Well, I got burned out on that for quite a while, but a local AM radio host got a few of those dormant neurons to fire, so I think I'm back in the mood again.  Finally, my interests in aikido, arnis (a Filipino martial art), & the U.S. Marine Corps remain, even though time limitations prevent me from staying as current and practiced as I'd like.
For those who feel personal web sites that talk about "me me me me me" are narcissistic and/or trivially exhibitionistic, I completely agree and am filled with self-loathing, which I hope is punishment enough.
Sooooo, be patient, & I'll soon have this web site up & running.  For now, it is under major construction!
