Club Station

Aerial of Club

The club station is located in the basement of the local Red Cross headquarters at 111 South Seventh Street, Lafayette, Indiana. The tower is at approximately 40° 24' 58" N by 86° 53' 20" W (in another form, that's 40.416 by -86.889). (My measurements are about 4 seconds south of what's listed in QRZ.COM's database) The station is in grid square EN-60-nk.

We conduct club meetings at the station about twice a month in addition to contests and other activities.

  • Street Map #1 - an on-line street map of the club station location via YaHoo Maps. The marking star for this map is a little further south than I might have placed it, but not by much.
  • Street Map #2 - an on-line street map of the location via MapQuest. I believe that the marking star for this map is on the wrong side of the street, but otherwise, its on target.
  • Aerial Photograph - A U.S.G.S. arial photograph of our club station, circa 1999. This particular photo was acquired from Microsoft's Terraserver and has a resolution of about one meter per pixel. What? You say you can't find it in the raw photo? Here, we'll help you out with a little image enhancement.

For the past few years, W9REG has conducted our field day operations from a field adjacent to the Indiana Soldiers Home, just north of West Lafayette along River Road. The site is at approximately 40° 28' 27" N by 86° 53' 24" W (in another form, that's 40.474 by -86.890), and is situated in grid square EN-60-nl.
  • Street Map #1 - an on-line street map of the field day site via YaHoo Maps. Only the River Road entrance shows up on this map, none of the service roads for the veteren's home show up.
  • Street Map #2 - an on-line street map of the field day site via MapQuest. Only the River Road entrance shows up on this map, none of the service roads for the veteren's home show up.
  • Topographic Map - Normal street maps of our field day site do not show anything interesting, so here is a U.S.G.S. topographic map of the field day site, circa 1987. This particular map ia actually a link to Microsoft's Terraserver and has a resolution of about two meters per pixel.
  • Aerial Photograph - A U.S.G.S. arial photograph of the hamfest site, circa 1998. This particular photo was acquired from Microsoft's Terraserver and has a resolution of about 1-2 meters per pixel. What? You say you can't find it in the raw photo? Here, we'll help you out with a little image enhancement.

U.S. Ham Density Charts

US Ham Density

KB9SSS has used AZ_PROJ to construct these maps.
  • U.S. Grid-4 Ham Densities [PDF] - color coded chart showing the relative number of U.S. amateur radio operators in each 4 digit grid square.
  • U.S. Grid-6 Ham Densities [PDF] - color coded chart showing the relative number of U.S. amateur radio operators in each 6 digit grid square.

KB9SSS has used AZ_PROJ to construct these maps. The available dataset was suspect, and only 90% of it was able to be processed (mostly out of the U.S.), but the charts should still prove useful/educational.
