Subject: Re: [AR902Mhz] kenwood tk-930 This is a 800mhz radio and depending upon your use, this might not be the best radio.. I realize, "One in the Hand, beats 2 in the bush".. I don't have the exact info on converting it, I can give you some basic's on what needs to be done.. I'd recommend trying to find a service manual.. Sorry I don't have one either.. You'll need to change the front end filters out of the radio and change a cap in the VCO.. The filters are either 2 3-pole filter, same as used in the Maxtrac, GE TMX, & and some Johnson radios, or a 3 pole and a 4 pole.. I know the 900mhz 931 is like this.. The 4 pole can be made up of 2 2-poles.. If the radio is going to be used as a repeater receiver, you should be able to find the 'Talk Around' line that goes to the VCO and enable it.. This works with almost all 800mhz radios, as the TA circuit moves the VCO range up to where it needs to be for a receiver low in the Ham band.. This saves you the trial and error of changing caps in the VCO.. On the Johnson 86xx 800mhz series, I enable the TA circuit in firmware during rec.. Programming the radio, requires you to change the file saved by the KPG5D programming software.. It will require you to change the 2 bytes saved in that file.. I'm not sure if my exe works works with 800mhz radios.. Finding which 2 bytes is easy.. Make 2 files, one with FCC Ch. 1 and another with 257.. Compare the 2 files with File Compare "FC /b File.one File.two" and it will tell you what 2 bytes are different.. Using a binary editor, change the bytes to something higher and see where it takes you.. Hope this gets you started... -73, Pete N2MCI
