How to renew your amateur radio license by mail if you don't have a FRN (note it is possible to do all this online & much easier) http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/amateur/licensing/renewal.html http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/ *********************************************************************** Guidelines: Renewals: amateur operator licenses may be renewed at any time during the last 90 days before the license expires. Your license cannot be renewed unless it is within 90 days of expiring. After your license expires, you have a two year grace period during which you can file for a reinstatement. During the this time, however, you are categorized as unlicensed and you may not transmit or go on the air. After the 2 year grace period has passed, the FCC cancels your license and makes it available to the pool. If your license gets canceled, you must start over from scratch and re-take all the code and theory tests necessary to hold the class of license you desire (don't let this happen to you!). Updates: you can update your license information at any time. Updates include corrections, changes of address, name changes, and replacement certificates. Note that an update action does not renew or extend your license - it merely updates your info at the FCC headquarters and causes the issuance of a new certificate. Social Security Numbers: As of July 1999, the FCC began requiring that all licensees provide their 9-digit Social Security Number (SSN) with all radio applications. More recently, they have instituted the FRN or Federal Registration Number program. An FRN is is automatically assigned to you once you've supplied them with an SSN. When an FRN exists for you in their records, the SSN is no longer required for subsequent filings. In case you're wondering, this requirement was mandated by Congress as part of the Debt Improvement Collection Act of 1996. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer:This is my current 7/02 understanding and it may not necessarily be correct and is subject to change and different procedures per individual You will need to send in form 160 to obtain a FCC registration number first After receiving the FRN, you may complete & mail forms 606 and 605 together Problems? 1-888-CALLFCC Forms needed: 160 CORES Registration form to obtain a FRN (FCC registration number) 606 TIN/Social Security Number Callsign Association form 605 Universal Quick Renewal / Application Form These forms can be obtained from: FCC Forms Distribution Center 1-800-418-FORM FCC Fax-on-demand (202) 418-0177 http://www.fcc.gov/formpage.html Instructions : (note all lines not described are to be left blank) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Form 160: Line 1 enter code "01" Line 3 enter your name (example "MR" "JOHN" "T" DOE") Line 5 enter your social security number (example "396012345") Line 9 enter your name again (example "JOHN" "T" DOE") Line 10 enter your address (example "123 SMITH STREET") Line 15 enter your city (example "YOUR CITY") Line 16 enter your state code (example "WI") line 17 enter your zip code (example "51234-0123") Line 18 enter your country code (example "USA") Line 19 enter your phone number (example "920-555-1212") Send this form to: FCC Attention CORES Administrator Room: CY-C140 445 12th St, SW Washington, DC 20554 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Form 606: Line 1a enter your social security number (example "396-01-2345") Line 1c enter your FRN you previously obtained through form 160 (example "0001234567") Line 2 enter your name (example "JOHN" "T" DOE") Line 5 enter your address (example "123 SMITH STREET") Line 6 enter your city (example "YOUR CITY") Line 7 enter your state code (example "WI") Line 8 enter your zip code (example "51234") Line 9 enter your phone number (example "920-555-1212") Line 22 enter your amateur callsign (example "N9ABC") Send this form to: Federal Communications Commission 1270 Fairfield Road Gettysburg, PA 17325-7245 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Form 605: Line 1 enter the amateur radio service code "HA" Line 2 enter the application code "RO" Line 3 enter "N" Line 5 enter your callsign (example "N9ABC") Line 7 enter "N" Line 8 enter "Y" if you are sending form 605 also Line 9 enter your FRN obtained from sending form 160 (example "0001234567") Line 10 enter "I" Line 11 enter your name (example "JOHN" "T" DOE") Line 15 enter your address (example "123 SMITH STREET") Line 16 enter your city (example "YOUR CITY") Line 17 enter your state code (example "WI") Line 18 enter your zip code (example "51234") Line 19 enter your country code (example "USA") Line 20 enter your phone number (example "920-555-1212") Line 24 enter "Y" Line 25 enter "Y" Line 26 enter your name (example "JOHN" "T" DOE") Sign and date line 28 Send this form to: Federal Communications Commission 1270 Fairfield Road Gettysburg, PA 17325-7245
