The KB9FIV Great

Train Adventure

(mixing work with HAM radio)

Hi, I am Verne E. Rezabek, KB9FIV.  I work for a locomotive manufacturer, and will be going on a trip to test different equipment.  This trip will take me along the Illinois Central line from northern Kentucky to New Orleans.  Below is a map of the route i will be taking.  This is just a rough map, as i do not know exactly what cities I will be going through, but with my equipment, i should be able to reach stations (and repeaters) for a few miles on each side of the two lines where the line splits. (My station specs and operating frequencies are listed below)  For those who may be interested, I am working on coming up with a special QSL certificate for this occasion, so you may want to listen for me in the next week or two.  Currently I am planning on leaving Illinois on Thursday, April 23, 1999, but if something comes up, I might be leaving as late as the 30th, so, again I can only promise that I will be leaving.

Primary (only) band: 2Meters (144-148MHz)

Mode: F3E (Frequency Modulation, or FM)

Power output: 5-7w from my HT into a 50w output   amplifier

Main operating Frequency: Railfan Simplex Net  Frequency  146.490 MHz no PL (this is TRUE simplex, so there is NO offset)  I WILL respond to stations who monitor  the net frequency and I might try to work some local repeaters as I pass through, but I cannot make any promises, as I do not know My exact time table at this time.

My calls into the repeaters and onto the railfan frequency SHOULD stand out, so listen for me to call " KB9FIV  FREIGHT TRAIN MOBILE MONITORING" or some variation of such.

My nephew and godson will be acting as my base manager, so if you have any questions, you can E-mail him   E-mail him at [email protected] <~~just click the red to Email KC9UMR.
