About Tom VanderMel

Tom VanderMel lives in Norton Shores, Michigan which is in Muskegon County, one of the many counties in Michigan's 6th District.  Licensed in 1994, Tom has been continually active in amateur radio since.  He is the District's Amateur Radio Emergency Coordinator, or DEC.  Each county in the district has their own Emergency Coordinator, or EC, whose contact information you can find here.

Tom's function is to oversee the duties of the EC's and act as a liaison to the State Emergency Coordinator, or SEC.  Those duties include ARES/RACES operations, public service events, Skywarn and NWS responses and other activities the individual counties may decide to participate in.
