I've been a licensed Amateur Radio operator since September 1993, after passing my No-code Technician exams (Elements 2 and 3a). In October of 1994 I passed element 1a (5WPM Morse Code reception), graduating me to Tech-plus class. Thanks to the FCC's restructuring of Amateur Radio licensing, I was able to earn my Amateur Extra license on 15 April 2000 (the first day that restructuring took effect :-). Even though I may be an "Extra Lite", I do have the goal to learn and use the Morse Code at speeds greater than 5 words per minute. I am a member of the ARRL, NorCal QRP Club (#2333), and the QRP ARCI (#9298), and I am a member and vice president of the HP Boise Amateur Radio Club. I'm not too active in any of the clubs outside of HPBARC, but I do enjoy what participation I have. My favorite yearly event with the HPBARC club is Field Day, the last full weekend in June. I am very interested in QRP (low power) operations, particularly since this area of Amateur Radio encourages participants to build and modify their own equipment. I enjoy learning about analog and RF (Radio Frequency) electronics, and I have fun putting together kits of various pieces of radio equipment. Unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of building an actual Heathkit product, and Heath is now out of the kit-making business. Fortunately there seems to be a resurgence in electronics kit companies, so there is still plenty of stuff out there to build. The last Field day that I planned was the 2003 event. I hope to do it again in 2005, so check back for more information!
