Echo Link Commands & Access

Echo link is a system that connects repeaters (like the one you are reading about and using), and other repeaters, conferences, and individual stations from around the world. There are those who say this is not “ham radio” but I say that any form of communication regardless of the age of the technology is in fact “Ham Radio” if it is hams who developed it or use it on a regular frequency. For many Echo Link is their window to the world due to antenna restrictions and other situations that preclude large antenna farms like the HF Operaters.

All that being said, enjoy this feature and use it often.

To access an Echo Link node, use the following steps.

• Listen to make sure there is not a conversation in progress.
• Identify your station then enter “## then the number of the Echo Link node.” The repeater’s voice will say the callsign or name of the node and “Connecting.” When you have connected the repeater will announce the name of the node or callsign and “Connected.” You can then begin your contact by calling “CQ”
• To conclude your contact, enter “##73” The repeater will say the name or callsign of the node station and “disconnected.”

Note:
The repeater has a different courticy tone in general the oppisit tone for Echo Link than stations using the repeater directly.
