FIELD DAY 2002

Field Day was held at the Blue Heron Park in Big Pine.  This year we operated 100% battery power with solar charging, all radios at 5 watts QRP.  We ran class 2A with Ray Fritts operating a GOTA station also at 5 watts.  Propagation was the worst in the last four years, and coupled with QRP power, we did not make many contacts.  Tom Beilman obtained a permit approved by the Park and Monroe County Administrators Office, in order to use the Park. Ray Fritts gave a great radio interview about the planned Field Day activities on US 1 Radio.   There were 10 participants for most of the weekend. A sumptuous Smoked Pork dinner was prepared by John Horan, Shirley and LT Perpall brought life sustaining rations to keep us going, Rick Beaver made his famous fudge, and several others brought dishes.  Barry Rimmer demonstrated APRS, SSTV, and PSK31 to visitors and interested hams, and of course everyone else involved did a fantastic job of pitching in to make for a great time had by all.  For those of you that could not participate we will hope to see you next year for a bigger and better Field Day.
