JAMES

I am originally from Huntsville, AL. I graduated in 1988 from S.R. Butler High School. In 1983, on one of my father's overseas tours, we went to West Germany were we lived till 1986. I enjoyed Germany a lot and hope to go back sometime in the future.

I am in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Detrick, MD. I am in the communications field providing communications support for the Army. I joined the Army in 1995 after serving about 5 1/2 years in the Alabama Army National Guard. I've been stationed in Fort Riley, KS, Camp Carroll in the Republic of South Korea, and Fort Huachuca, AZ before coming here to Fort Detrick, MD. Tenativly I will be stationed in Kuwait for a year in April 2002.

I enjoy being with the family and being on the computer. My newest hobby is amatuer radio. I currently listen to shortwave broadcasts from other countries, along with some in the U.S. I took my HAM liscense test in June 2001 and acquired my Technician Class Liscense. My call sign is KB3GUU. I have been reading about antennas and experimenting a little with them on my shortwave radios. I plan on building a HAM radio from a kit in the near future and I also plan on buying a couple commercially. One of my shortwave radios is a kit that I have built, works pretty good for a $40.00 kit.

RADIO LINKS

NASWA is a web site for short-wave listeners. The site contains short-wave news, loggings database, and a listening guide to help you find stations to listen to during the day or week.

DXtreme holds quarterly drawings for such things as books, magazines, and membership to NASWA. I have been fortunate to win a year membership to NASWA and I feel it is a great organization for short-wave listeners. The site also has software that can come in handy for your short-wave listening from logs to audio processing.

QRZ is a web site for HAM radio operators. You can register you call sign and have it added to the database. You can look up callsigns for information on people. The site also has a lot of HAM news and information. If you are like me and studying for your HAM license the site has a good practice test that will help you learn the HAM world.
