KB1CVH
This is the amateur radio web page of Peter Grace, KB1CVH.

My primary web page is located at http://world.std.com/~pgrace/

I received my Amateur Radio Callsign - KB1CVH - issued May 18, 1998 by the FCC.

My license is a technician class granted by the FCC in the United States. My QTH is Somerville, Massachusetts, USA so that gives me access to the following frequency bands in ITU Region 2:
6m, 2m, 222Mhz,  440Mhz, 900Mhz, and 1240Mhz.

I've wanted to be an amateur radio operator since I was 10 years old. Now more then 25 years later, I am one.
I'm very glad that the FCC approved the no-code license, though I do intend to learn CW so I can get HF privileges.  I'm also interested in packet radio on UHF and VHF.  When I get HF privileges, I'd like to operate QRP CW too. I knew most of the answers when I took the exam, but I boned up for it using AA9PW's amateur radio exam practice page.   I'm looking forward to Elmering my son, Edwin.

The straw that made be take the exam for an amateur license was when my XYL expressed a strong interest in the Family Radio Service (FRS).  I object to paying more than $15 for a radio what has 500mw PEP or less which tries to be exclusive with whom you can have a QSO with.  I think that VHF/UHF would better suit my XYL and my needs and would also allow us to contribute to public service and emergency needs of our community.

I'm wanted an HT that I can interface with my Linux machine.  I wanted an HT that provides about 5W PEP on 2m and 440Mhz.  I'd like it to cover 222 Mhz also, but it seems that there aren't any being manufactured.

I now own an ICOM IC-W21A (serial number 001163). It's a dual band (144/440) HT with 5W. I got a good deal on it,but it seems to be a problem getting info on it (the manual isn't very complete) and batteries might be a problem too as they built the mike into the battery pack.  I'm using an external mike so I don't use the internal.  I've created a FAQ on it.

I am a member of the ARRL and the Boston Amateur Radio Club.
