MILFORD AMATEUR RADIO REPEATER ASSOCIATION

(MARRA)

KB1CBD/r  146.925 MHZ. (-600) PL 67

Eels Hill,  Milford CT.

            Mission Statement

MARRA provides Auxiliary Communications to partner agencies in the event that regular
communications systems become over-loaded or fail.

MARRA owns and maintains a local coverage amateur radio communications station
(the KB1CBD Repeater) that is supported by its members, a cadre of trained Amateur
Radio Emergency Service (ARES) communicators with FEMA IS-100, 200, 700, 800 certifications.

           A Brief History

MARRA was started in 1976. It was originally housed in the Board of Education
building on Eels Hill with a single radio to support Civil Defense communications.
It has enjoyed a long and positive working relationship with the Milford Fire Department
             over the years.

Today, MARRA continues its mission of Public Service Communications and has
installed a new 2 meter Yaesu Repeater (January 2015) with an output of 20-50 watts.
MARRA is co-located with its sister club the Coastline Amateur Radio Association on
            Eels Hill in Milford, CT.

As parents, our biggest fear has always been the possibility of something horrible happening to one of our children. Our worst nightmare became a reality on September 25, 2007, when we discovered that our 18-month-old son, Nate, had passed away in his sleep. We are left with no answers as to why our precious son died. His death was ruled sudden unexplained death in childhood (SUDC), which occurs when an apparently healthy child beyond the age of 12 months dies without warning and without a known cause.

Soon after our loss we learned of the SUDC Foundation which provided us with crucial support services, information and access to research. Being able to talk to others who have experienced SUDC helped us to not feel so alone.

In 2009, we held our first A Night for Nate raising over $12,000 to benefit SUDC. We continued this event for 4 more years and have raised over $50,000 for the SUDC Foundation! In 2014 we hosted our first 5K walk/run and raised over $15,000 in Nate's name and to continue to raise awareness and funds for SUDC.

The third annual "Nate the Great's 5K Race" will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016, in Milford, CT, at the Rotary Pavilion behind the Milford Library. The event will include a 5K run/walk, a children's fun run and an after party at Stonebridge Restaurant in Milford, CT.

We hope that you will join us on October 8th! Please use the tabs at the top of the page for more information on how to register for "Race" events and the after party as well as Nate's story and more information about the SUDC Foundation. Thank you for your support!
