PSK 31 - Digital Emergency Communication (DigiPan 1.6d)
Split (Dual) operation

This page is for Dual freq (split) use.

The frequencies refered to are found on the 'waterfall' of DigiPan, 1000 Hz (main Net) and 1600 Hz (check-in).

The MESN PSK 31 Net frequency is 7.075.0 plus or minus 3.0 KHz (always on an even KHz increment).

Be sure to set your soundcard output and the rig drive level (Mic gain for some) for no more than 30 watts. The 'duty cycle' of many digital modes is high and the PA in the rig heats up - Fast. Excessive drive also distorts the PSK signal making it difficult or impossible to RX and takes a lot more bandwidth. Just 20 watts of power should provide an excellent signal throughout our coverage area (most of the time I use 5 - 10 watts).

The picture above illustrates how to 'Log In' to MESN. Move your mouse pointer directly under 1600 (see above screen shot) and click, the small Red Diamond MUST be on 1600 Hz. If you were Carl, KC0DEF you would type in (the blue text) your Call Sign, First name and the 'to join MESN Net' text. Then just click TX to send the text you typed. Next set the small Red Diamond to 1000 Hz (this will show the net 'conversation').

Two important things to remember - you need have your Rig VFO right on the Net (we will always be on an exact KHz increment) - Also the small Red Diamond MUST be on 1600 Hz when you transmit your call. If not 'on' with both items Net Control may miss your call...

The above shows how the actual Net text will look (to 'see' this you must move the small Red Diamond to 1000 Hz). Fred just finished his transmission to the Net and Net Control is ready to TX and turn it over to Carl. Once Carl is finished Net Control will then call for the next station that has been heard and logged in thru 1600 Hz.
DigiPan is really easy once you get some program use under your belt.

Below is a typical screen with DigiPan in the 'Dual mode', it can RX two different PSK conversations at once.
This Dual mode may not be the best choice for other than Net Control Ops.
Dual mode is enabled/disabled via the Channel menu at the top of the DigiPan window.

The top (red text) is the actual Net on 1000Hz While the middle (blue text) represents the 'Log in' on 1600 Hz. The bottom, green text is Net Control getting ready to TX and turn it over to Carl.

Note the small Red Diamond (RX A) and the small Blue Triangle (RX B) at 1000 and 1600 Hz respectively, on the waterfall. The small Green Flag above the red diamond is the frequency where DigiPan will TX.
