information for – MO-KAN Digi Net
NBEMS HF-VHF Training
The MO-KAN Digi Net was started to explore potential traffic handling in and around the states of Kansas and Missouri. Fldigi (the modem) for NBEMS programs can run a 'dual instance' of fldigi. This means one sound card and interface can run an HF transceiver while the second sound card & interface runs a VHF transceiver.
One example could be, National Weather KC might need a Severe Weather report from an outlying county, beyond VHF capability, an NBEMS Ham could send the digital report back to Kansas City via HF. Then a KC metro Ham could receive the report and forward via VHF to local SkyWarn net.
All properly licensed amateurs are welcome to the net. We would encourage participation of weather related, hospital, or emergency management groups, digital traffic is welcomed.

Recommended software below, would be considered the minimum needed -
Fldigi
Flmsg
Flamp

Further information regarding 'dual instance' use with Fldigi may be found at this URL http://w1hkj.com/FldigiHelp-3.21/html/operating_multiple_copies_page.html
Note for storm season: The modes MT63-500L or MT63-1000L should provide the best immunity to lightning crash interference. Wider modes would be used with consideration of others operating near net frequency.
To allow NCS to 'auto-change' modes, insure the following (RxID = green)
To minimize
interference from others operating close to the net insure only the
following is checked
If 'Searches passband' is checked the entire audio range will be checked and would allow others operating near the net to “pull” your SW off net waterfall frequency and mode. If trying to receive a message or file this would result in failure. Operation on VHF makes no difference as VHF is 'channelized' in 5 (or more) Khz steps.
Use of the SignaLink USB interface is highly recommended, others may work fine, but core experience lies in use of SL USB.
Look forward to seeing everyone on the
waterfall!
