May 1999 South Texas PIO Report Media Hits No reported media hits this month. Media Contact Lee Evans (AC5GG) has submitted articles about a recent Hurricane Workshop in which 10 Amateur Radio operators participated. In all he sent the news to papers in Port Arthur, Beaumont and Orange. He has already been interviewed by a reporter from an Orange, Texas paper. Martha Underwood (N2VRF) reports that she is working on an award for some graduating seniors in the Williamson County area. She thinks this will make it into the local papers. Field Day Planning More info to follow in the near future. Please let me know of your plans. Misc. I've set up a South Texas Public Information Officer mail reflector so that we can all communicate more quickly with each other. I've already sent out invitations to join to every PIO that I know of with an emaitl address. If I somehow missed you, or if you forgot to sign up please let me know and I'll add you right away. The mail reflector service I chose is free and includes a calendar system that will allow us to track deadlines (monthly reports) and upcoming events (like Field Day!). You might think about setting up a similar mail reflector for club officials and/or members in your area as well. The service is available at: http://www.egroups.com/ Don't forget about the old STX PIO web page: http://www.qsl.net/ka5wss/stxpio/ Upcoming changes to the STX PIO web page: * Restructure of the STX PIO Handbook to be web-centric. Instead of one large document it will be broken up into links to appropriate chapters and sections. Upcoming Events Jul 26-27 Field Day Oct ?? Simulated Emergency Test (More on this next month) Please send me your comments and suggestions! 73, Robert Barron, KA5WSS
