I picked up a used JRC
NRD-525
from the now-defunct Gilfer Associates, at the 1996 SWL Fest. In
addition,
I grabbed A Dressler ARA60 active antenna. Since then I've added
a trusty long wire. I will try to keep a set of links to some great
shortwave
radio related stuff below:
This is what the SINPO Code means:
S is for Strength
I is for Interference from
other radio stations
N is for Noise, such as
local
electrical noise from motors, etc.
P is for Propagation
(sometimes
referred to as fading)
O is for Overall quality.
Each of these values is
expressed
with a number, ranging in value from 1 through 5.
For example, if you are listening to a very strong and steady signal from a shortwave station and this signal is just like a local AM station with no interference and no sign of fading, then the signal would be described with the highest values, as SINPO 55555. A very strong signal, with slight interference and occasional fading would be described as SINPO 54544.
At the other extreme, if you are listening to a low-powered distant shortwave station with severe interference, and the signal is so bad you can hardly hear any of the programming from the station, it might be described as SINPO 21331.
In giving a SINPO rating in your reception report, you should endeavor to be as accurate and as factual as possible, without artificially enhancing the values at all. The station likes to know the actual reception quality of its signal in your area.
Attached below is a complete tabulation of the SINPO Code. As you look at it, you can see the various values as they are listed. The more you use the SINPO Code in your reception reports, the more familiar it will become to you.
And again, if you would like to, why not send a reception report to AWR, using the SINPO Code, on one of our many shortwave stations? We would love to hear from you and we will respond with an attractive new QSL card. In fact, many shortwave listeners tell us the very first QSL card they ever received was from one of the stations in the international shortwave network of Adventist World Radio.

I

I
will know this world but once.If there any love I Can
