HISTORYFountain Valley, named by the New York Times as America's Millennium City is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and includes the communities of Fountain, Widefield, and Security and is home to nearly 50,000 people combined. The city of Fountain was established in 1859 and got its name from nearby Fountain Creek, named by early French explorers La Fountaine qui Bouille, "the springs that boils". Fountain Creek originates in the Ute Pass and flows through Colorado Springs, then through the Fountain Valley before joining the Arkansas River in Pueblo. Lt Zebulon Pike followed Fountain Creek in his failed attempt summit of the peak named after him, Pikes Peak. Fountain was founded in 1859 and is the oldest town in El Paso County. Fountain was the areas agricultural hub of the region. Cattle and crops were transported to and from Fountain by railroad. When Colorado became a state, Fountain rivaled Denver as the State Capital. Today, the Fountain Valley is experiencing growth. More people are finding the Fountain Valley home each year. Influences from local military bases and high tech companies promise a great future for years to come. Fountain is approximately 20 miles south of Colorado Springs and 30 miles north of Pueblo along interstate I-25 at 5,546 feet above sea level.
