Here's a beginning for a number of pages devoted to vintage ham gear in
the process of restoration and repair. My Hammarlund HQ-110A is featured
as I happened to take a few photos during the cleanup process.
A couple more Boatanchor Innards shots are below the 110A series, so
page down as needed..
Here's the HQ110AC featured in this section, flanked by a number of older
Hammarlund kinfolk. Proceeding clockwise from the top right,
the HQ129X, HQ110AC, HQ170C, HQ145C, HQ110C, and HQ160. Note the darker
grey front panel of the "A" series as compared to the stock 110 to its
left.
This photograph is the top chassis view of my Hammarlund
HQ-110A, taken during a general cleanup session in late 1997. While it probably
doesn't add much to the value of the reciever, the cadmium plated chassis
responded very well to a touch of Flitz metal polish. Too bad there is no feasable
method of placing this in a see-through cabinet. Anybody remember "Transparent
Aluminum" from The Voyage Home?
Here's a front panel view of the HQ-110A, also during the physical cleanup
process. The soot on the bottom of the left tuning dial had originally
covered most of the receiver, inside and out. Luckily, late model Hammarlund
tuning dials have a clear protective coating over the markings, so I didn't need
to worry about "washing away" the original scales as I cleaned.
Here's the raw front panel of the HQ-110A, after a light cleaning.
Luckily, this panel had no major blemishes, and eventually responded nicely
with a light application of McGuier's non-abrasive automotive wax.
