(Stinkin')   Lincoln 6 meter transceiver

This little transceiver was basically an early 27 megacycle AM CB rig, redesigned to tune the 50 megacycle, amateur 6 meter band.

It became popular among the local hams after Allied Radio ran a closeout sale on their remaining stock for $25 each.

The rig used a dual section 6CX8 tube, one section was a crystal oscillator and the other section was the power amplifier at 5 watts input. You tuned the transmitter by watching a neon bulb as you twiddled an alignment tool on a small trimmer capacitor. You peaked the output this way but had to back off a bit if the transmitter modulation started to squeal.

It came with a crystal microphone but there was no gain control. Normal speech usually gave adequate modulation.

The receiver section had a mixer/oscillator feeding the I.F. stages. It had no RF amplifier and was not extremely sensitive.

All the rigs came supplied with a crystal on the frequency of 50.4 Mcs. This frequency quickly became the most popular 6 meter channel in the Chicago area.

All things considered, it was a good value and allowed many hams to sample six meter operation. The "stinkin'" moniker was just too good a rhyme for the users of this rig to ignore.
