K9ES MOBILE
I have operated mobile HF since running a SBE-34 in my 1960 Corvaire while in San Francisco during 1966 and 1967. While at Purdue, I ran mobile with an Icom FTDX-100 and Heathkit HA-14 Kilowatt Compact. I used "super hustler" antennas. In 1992, I installed a TS-50 in my Pontiac Transport and then my Ford Areostar Van, using an Outbacker Perth antenna. In 2001, I traded the van for a 2001 Kia Sephia, and had no room for the TS-50 and purchased an Icom 706 Mk-2-G with an AH-4 tuner. I have a 15 meter Hamstick which works on 80 - 10 Meters, with the auto-tuner.

I use a Hamstick with a Diamond K400-3/8 lip mount, and a quick disconnect, so I can get the car in the garage. I also have a Diamond K2700 VHF / UHF antenna.

The main portion of the IC-706-MK2G is trunk mounted. A pair of 6AWG Teflon insulated wires carry 12 volts direct from the battery to the trunk, using routing inder the car, yet secured from being loose.

The AH-4 tuner is mounted on the inside of the trunk, with the center feed going direct through a 4" insulated wire to the K400-3/8 center connection.

The operating position has the front console secured to a piece of wood cut to fit the map holder between the AM / FM radio and the heater / air conditioning control. I keep the Bencher paddle in the console between the driver and passenger seat. All cables are buried and hidden.
