May 1, 2005 -- (West Terre Haute, IN)  Just completed a week of upgrading the base station.  On Tuesday, 4.26, added a Yaesu FT-847 & delegated the TS-140S permanently to portable operations.  Today, with the help of WA9WJJ, installed a home-brew 160m Windom antenna at the 27-foot level on my partially completed tower.  Now have 160m capability for the 1st time ever.

March 27, 2005 -- (West Terre Haute, IN) Just completed participating in the CQ WPX SSB contest.  Except for Field Day, this was the 1st contest that I had ever participated in with an eye towards building a score.  I used the N1MM contest logging software for the 1st time, also.  I had 250 QSO's with a claimed score of 104,895 points.  I don't think that is too bad for my 1st time.  Especially using an ancient TS-140S transceiver that did not interface with the logging software, so I had to enter the frequencies manually.  I worked 4 countries for the 1st time on any band (Ghana, Greece, Isle of Jersey, & Tunisia).  I worked 2 new countries on 75m, 2 new countries on 40m, 10 new countries on 20m, & 14 new countries on 15m.   I worked a total of 61 countries, 25 states, and 185 different prefixes.  All-in-all it was a VERY enjoyable & successful weekend!

March 13, 2005 -- (West Terre Haute, IN) Purchased a sound-card interface kit from BuxComm (http://www.packetradio.com) and put it together.  Am now capable of several digital modes on HF.  Made 1st ever PSK31 contact on 20m with WA4EEZ in St. Petersburg, FL.

March 7, 2005 -- (West Terre Haute, IN) Put up a G5RV on existing (partially-erected) tower.  Top is only at 27 feet & the ladder line has to go through some crazy twists & turns to keep the balun off the ground, but it seems to be working.  This is a temporary installation to get me on the air from home before my back surgery scheduled for March 15.  Ultimate plans are to add a top section onto the tower to take it to its full height of 45 feet and then install a 160m Windom on a side-arm at the top of the tower.

February 18, 2005 -- (West Terre Haute, IN) Received my Amateur Radio Operator's Certificate for Visitors from the Chinese Radio Sports Association.  Since I will be spending the entire month of June in China, I decided to see if I could operate Field Day from Shanghai.

December 17, 2002 -- (West Terre Haute, IN)  We will be driving to Tucson, AZ, to visit Natalie's mother, and returning after the 1st of the year.  Look for us on 10-meters (entire phone band) or on 20-meters (around 14.250 MHz).  Will try to check into the QCWA net (14.347 MHz) on Sunday, 12/22.  Most operations will be on our travel dates of 12/21-12/23, & 1/2-1/4.
