December 11, 2004 -- CAARLA Assists with "Santa Claus at the
Mall" Special Event Station
|

|
| For the 2nd consecutive year, the Wabash Valley Amateur
Radio Association, in cooperation with FM radio station WMGI (MIX-FM),
operated a special event station to allow children to talk to Santa Claus
from an amateur radio station set up in Honey Creek Mall.
"Santa Claus" used the special event call sign W9S
(Whiskers-Nine-Santa) while the station set up at the mall used the WVARA
club call, W9UUU. When the station at the mall was operated by
CAARLA members, the CAARLA club call, K9CAT, was used.
In the above photo, CAARLA president, Debbie, KC9AOR, helps a child
talk to Santa, while president-elect, Charla, N9TRS, looks on. |

June 1, 2004 -- CAARLA Members Upgrade to General
| Several CAARLA members participated in the WVARA
General upgrade class which ended with a VE testing session on Tuesday
evening, June 1, 2004. Charla Evinger, N9TRS, finished the
class early by passing her General exam in March. Mary Pifer,
KB9NLJ, and Diane Brentlinger, KB9PAV, both passed the code
test and the written exam at the end-of-class test session. They
both attempted the Extra written exam without any preparation. Diane
surprised everyone by only missing passing her Extra by 5 questions.
