March 1, 2003 will mark the 200th anniversity of statehood for Ohio. The KO8HIO call will be used extensively throughout Ohio's Bicentennial Year. There will also be a series of awards available for working KO8HIO and other Ohio stations during 2003. For more information on the awards see below. If you are a ham living in Ohio, and would like to become a member of the Northeast Ohio Bicentennial Amateur Radio Club please e-mail [email protected] for details. Club members will be able to use this special call by scheduling dates and times with the club trustee. AWARDS-
Ohio Bicentennial Award
 Basic Level
 Work 100 different stations in the state of Ohio. Any band or mode, but no repeater contacts

White Level
 Work KO8HIO and 200 different stations in the state of Ohio.
 

Blue Level
 Work KO8HIO on at least 3 different bands and/or modes and 200 different stations in the state of Ohio

Gold Level
 Work KO8HIO on at least 5 different bands and/or modes and 200 different stations in the state of Ohio



Ohio Counties Bicentennial Award Basic Level
 Work stations in 22 of the 88 Ohio counties. Any band or mode, but no repeater contacts

White Level
 Work stations in 66 of the 88 Ohio counties. You may use up to two contacts with KO8HIO as two wildcards for credit in any missing county.

Blue Level
 Work stations in 88 of the 88 Ohio counties. You may use up to three contacts with KO8HIO as three wildcards for credit in any missing county.

Gold Level
 Work stations in 88 of the 88 Ohio counties and work KO8HIO at least once.



General Rules for all Awards
  1. Any valid amateur radio band from 1.8 MHz to 2.4 GHz may be used for the contacts. 
  2. No repeater contacts count, the only exception is space based satellite transponders
  3. Contest contacts are acceptable and participation in the Ohio QSO Party is encouraged.
  4. Two way contacts only. (A special SWL version will is available for non-licensed operators.)
  5. No QSL cards are required for contacts. If you work KO8HIO and would like a copy of the special KO8HIO QSL card please submit one of your cards listing contact information along with a SASE (DX stations are encouraged to send QSL cards via the QSL Buearu c/o K8ZT only.)
  6. Please provide a printed list of contacts worked including callsign, band, date and time in UTC. Printed lists from logging programs, spreadsheet files or Cabrillo formated electronic submissions are welcome.
  7. When applying for the county awards, county worked must be listed with each callsign. Please list alphabetically  in order by county name. If using KO8HIO contacts for wild cards please note county desired.
  8. Please clearly indicate name and callsign you would like printed on award certificate and address to mail to.
  9. A special Endorsemeant is available to operators who use QRP (5 watts or less) to complete all contacts. Please indicate power used on your application for the award. Special endorsements are also available for completing the award on a single mode or band, please note requests for these endorsements on application.
  10. There is no cost or SASE required for Gold Level Awards earned by US hams. All other awards require a  fee of $7 or 7 IRCs for US hams and $10 USD or 10 IRCs for DX hams to cover printing and postal costs.
