The USECA SETI Team

32,016 work units!

The search for radio signals from deep space!

All amateurs enjoy searching for radio signals, but you don't have to be a ham or a member of the USECA Organization to get involved in this search. The USECA - SETI Team Project was founded by Mark W8IR in May of 1999, and at this writing, our team has accumulated an amazing 18,875 work units in just over a years time! Mark, and the USECA Organization invite you to join our team in the search!

If the concept of  connecting your computer to the Arecibo Radio Telescope sounds appealing to you, then why not give it a try? The popular screensaver version can be installed, which runs mostly when you are away from your computer. There are more details available from the Performance Page  or SETI home page button.

There are a few of us in the club you might call computer enthusiasts. We like using computers in the amateur radio mix. You don't have to be a "super geek" or "nerd" to join the in the search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence! The popular version of SETI is a screensaver type program that processes the work unit and provides a beautiful screensaver display to watch as the work unit is processed. When you are using your computer for other tasks, it can be configured turn off or work in the background. It is simple to set up and use.

Some of the more serious power users in our group prefer to run the command line version of the program in the background all of the time. Some of us have pretty decent computers, broadband internet connections, and a growing number of our group are networking with small LAN's at home. There is always friendly competition between us, but we always welcome newcomers, share our ideas, expertise, and advantages with the group. This is all part of the tradition of amateur radio, and the principal reason for the overall success of the USECA Organization.
