The Baofeng UV-5R series of radio is an incredible dual band handheld radio that can be found on Amazon for about $30 with charger and battery.
Unbelievable performance and features but the 15 paqe Chinese manual is only problem - untill now. The (Chinese) Radio Documentation Project has written a fantastic professionally prepared user manual that can be downloaded
free from http://www.miklor.com/uv5r/. There are also software links, pin outs, and programming sheets for that radio.
