H.V.A.R.C. Minutes
June 6, 2006
The regular monthly meeting of the Hocking Valley Amateur Radio Club (H.V.A.R.C.) was called to order June 6, at 7:30 p.m. by 2006 club president Tom Odell (AB8SJ). The secretary was present.
No visitors were recognized.
Treasurer’s report presented by Gene Smith (N8BUS).
Can be view at any
regular club meeting.
Roman Wilshanetsky (W8TUZ) reports only the front fuel tank is to be used on the communications van. He also advises to keep the respective tank full at all times. Recent repair bill was due to water in the fuel system.
Phil Stanley (KB8NZB) reports generators have been serviced, invitations have been mailed to city and/or county officials, K8LGN will operate under a 3A status, a brief field day meeting will follow normal business and dinner will be at 6 PM. There will be no food from the Legion’s grill this year. The field day food list is available to sign up for your favorite covered dish.
A basic weather
spotter’s class was held in lieu of our May business meeting. Club members were advised via email, word of
mouth and announcements during regularly scheduled nets.

Lightning has struck
the E.O.C. Jupiter radio and computer
were hit. The radio will be shipped to
Ten-Tec for repair (covered under insurance).
Roman Wilshanetsky reports he has found (at
least) the computer power supply to be inoperative. He adds that from his experience, it would be
wise to discard any computer with damage due to a power surge and/or lightning
strike. Troubleshooting may only serve
to add additional expense to the loss and sub-systems may never return to
normal. After some discussion, Phil
Stanley and Wayne Pickett (WB8JFU) agreed to troubleshoot by only replacing
power supply.
No further expense
will be introduced. Insurance coverage
shall be reviewed with Dave Brimner (KB8OTU) at the
next business meeting.
Bernard Ginley (N4VVK) has paid dues for 2006.

T.V. questions were raised by others at the event. Discussion will begin with Bill Parker. Bernard Ginley
volunteered to contact Mr. Parker to invite him to address our club.
From the C.E.R.T.
mock disaster, several issues were raised.
·
F.R.S. radios
(like those used during the event) are subject to interference and are easily
bumped off frequency.
·
Roman Wilshanetsky recommended having one amateur operator with
each team. The operator would then use
fixed-channel radios operating on the M.U.R.S. frequencies. These (6 to 10) radios should be purchased by

Net control
for the event relied upon personal equipment to process radio traffic. The club should compile a “to-go” box with a
“DC to daylight” radio.
