H.V.A.R.C. Minutes
February 7, 2006
The regular monthly meeting of the Hocking Valley Amateur Radio Club (H.V.A.R.C.) was called to order February 7, at 7:30 p.m. by 2006 club president Tom Odell (AB8SJ). The secretary was present.

(KC8YXV) was recognized as a visitor.
1. The Treasurer’s report presented by
Gene Smith (N8BUS), (which can be view in its entirety at any club meeting.
The need for
committees was discussed. Phil Stanley
(KB8NZB) suggested committees include vehicle, radio room and repeater. Roman Wilshanetsky (W8TUZ) suggested
committees include special events, field day and group projects. The following committees were recorded:

Roman Wilshanetsky suggested that the spokespersons for each committee create a mission statement and possibly a list of task oriented goals to be presented at the next club meeting. It was decided that no committee meetings would be scheduled at this time.
Tom
Odell commented that no current officers have keys for the EOC and/or the
meeting room and radio room. Ray Webb a
copy of respective keys and will make copies after it is determined who will
receive them.
Tom
Odell has scheduled a meeting to be on the 19th with the Lancaster
V.E.C. regarding coordination of test sessions.
Tom would prefer candidates pre-register for tests to be taken through
the Logan club so that V.E.s may be scheduled accordingly. Those persons licensed to assist are Tom
Odell, Ray Webb, Mel Myers, Joni Tornwall (KC8TUX), and Gene Smith.

Roy
Vickers announced he has presented our gift to the Monday Creek Township
Trustees and relayed their gratitude. He
commented that renovations to the facility have been completed.
Ray Webb distributed
hardcopies of the UHF network site information, which includes but is not
limited to location, call sign, frequency and distance to other locations in
the network. Ray also commented that the
Lancaster, OH club is interested in joining the UHF network and that the
“Wilgus” site is now completing on-air testing.
Phil Stanley added that the Athens club might be interested in adding a
6-meter site in Athens, OH.
Ray also announced a
weekend amateur radio (technician) course sponsored in part by the Mid-Ohio
Valley Amateur Radio Club, Inc. Classes
will be held at the University of Rio Grande March 11 and 12th. The cost of the course will be $15 (includes
study manual) or $5 (no study manual provided for those who may already own
material). Registration is required
through Bryson Carter (KA8AUZ) at 740-446-4193.
A flyer with additional information is available through our club for
those who may be interested. Ray added
that Ron Erb (WO8Z) is seeking extra class V.E.s to assist.
Tom Odell reminded
everyone of the 440 net held every Thursday night at 8am. The Logan site may accessed on 443.125MHz
with a +5MHz offset, or through a 2-meter remote base on 145.77MHz with a 107.2
Hz tone.
Tom also announced
Skywarn Spotter training classes to be held at Woodland Centers Inc. in
Gallipolis, OH on February 16 and March 9.
Basic and advanced classes will be available on separate dates. No registration is required. A flyer with
additional information is available through our club for those who may be
interested.
Tom reminded everyone
that every third Tuesday at 7:30pm is radio night at the clubroom. He plans on building projects, inviting
speakers and having basic hobby-related classes.
Tom presented a
proposal for a Morals Clause to our club constitution. Hardcopies were distributed to each member in
attendance and its contents discussed.
Roman Wilshanetsky suggested seeking similar proven documents from other
organizations and he was asked to do the same.
He added that Roberts Rules of Order is an excellent source for
direction in these matters.

Dave Brimner
announced that G.O.B.A. will be travelling through Hocking County on June 22nd
and is seeking permission to use our repeater during the event. In addition, they are seeking a net control
operator who may be experienced with law enforcement, medical and/or dispatch
related activities. If given permission
to use our system, they will be conducting tests on March 4th and 5th. Roman Wilshanetsky made a motion that
permission be granted to use our repeater system. Gene Smith seconded motion. Dave Brimner will advise G.O.B.A. of our vote
via a letter. Gene Smith advised the
event will fall on the Thursday prior to the A.R.R.L. Field Day 2006.
Gary Snider (W8GTS)
announced that the Lancaster, OH club has installed Echolink on their VHF
repeater (147.030MHz).
The flower fund drawing was held. The winner, Dave Brimner returned proceeds back to the fund.
Becky Vickers
(KC8URA) announced the Monday Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department will be
hosting a soup dinner from 4pm-7pm February 25th. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children for
ALL YOU CAN EAT soup.

Gene Smith made a motion to adjourn. Roman Wilshanetsky seconded the motion. The president adjourned the meeting at 8:30pm. Next meeting shall be March 7 at 7:30pm.
