Well don't seem to be much action on 20 meters. Hmm how bout 15?
Nope nothin guess it old reliable 40 meters always action on 7.058
fists frequency WAIT A MINUTE what was I doing ??? Oh yea, the
      newsletter.

Can't believe it halfway through February, Spring is coming! Any way
we had a great meeting on the 8th where several points were brought
up. These were discussed at a meeting I had with the officers on the
5th. Two that I wanted to mention are an Ohio Bicentennial special
event station and a club Hamfest or swap meet. I didn't want to
finalize any thing on these at the meeting because I don't think we
had enough members in attendance considering the amount of work
involved in projects like these .

On the special event station even though our bicentennial is not
until 2003 Pat tells us that a lot of events are already being
planed, so do we want to do this now or wait until 2003 or both?
And regarding the hamfest this was discussed as possibly being an
annual event and was suggested that we might want to go with a swap
meet for a year or so before we went into a hamfest as a swap meet
would not limit it to just radio equipment. And of course on both
of these when and where do we have them? If we have them.

As I said these kinds of projects take a lot of work and I would
like to have more feedback. I would rather that decisions like this
were not made by just a few and I don't want these to end up having
to be done by just a few.

So please let me know what you think. Want to work a radio for
Ohio's 200th? Got a junk box or closet that has way to much stuff?
Hmmmm a swap meet might make $$$. Feel free to call me at 544-6889
with your opinion for or against. You can also contact Ed or any of
the officers. Your input is appreciated. And hey, got a favorite
radio story or a rare QSL card to show? Well your in luck, March
topic of the month is open here is your chance to take center stage
we all want to hear from you. I guess that's about it for now I look
forward to seeing everyone at the meeting in March on the 14th.
Wait, I hear a 7 call.. rats I already got Idaho; oh well see you on
      the bands.
                                 73, de KC8HFV

                         February 8, 2000 MEETING
                           Barbara Lock - N8HIA

The meeting for the DeForest A.R.C. was called to order by our
president, George KC8HFV. The meeting started at 7:04 p.m., with
George leading the group with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
George welcomed everyone to the meeting and members introduced
themselves. There were 22 people present at the meeting. It was nice
to see Sonny KB8SRU, who has not been in a while.

George KC8HFV, asked Barb N8HIA, to read the minutes for January.
Dick W8ZFO, made the motion to accept the minutes as printed in the
newsletter. Linda KC8JZG, second and the motion carried. Glenna
KC8JXD, said there was a mistake in the newsletter. The correct
date for the treasurer's report should read, 01-01-00 through
01-11-00, please make note of the correction.

Marlene KC8JXE, read the treasurer's report for February, for
01-12-00 through 02-08-00. The total inflows $763.50 and outflows
$352.21, balance is $2,178.97. Marlene passed around the treasurer's
report for all who were interested in the report. Marlene has gotten
information back on the Dayton Hamfest. We will have the same spaces
we have always had in the past. Barb N8HIA, made the motion to
accept the treasurer's report as read and Pat KC8LVE, second and the
      motion carried.

George KC8HFV, asked for Ed KE8FK, to give a vice president report.
Ed said the officers had met to go over suggestions for the coming
year. Ed said they had discussed maybe having a hamfest for this
year. There was some discussion about the hamfest, and two special
      events.

George KC8HFV, passed out certificates for special event for the
millennium net. Some of the people were not there to receive the
certificate. Pat KC8LVE, made the motion to mail the certificates
to ones not at the meeting. Barry KB8OMG, second the motion carried.

Jerry WB8IOW, said the Ash Ridge packet equipment will be on the air
in March. Don KC8JXC, will climb the tower to put up the antenna.
The tower is 125 feet high. If help is needed Jerry will ask on the
radio. The location will be Lake Waynoka.

Ed KE8FK, asked if anyone wanted to be on the Field Day Committee.
The committee will add Linda KC8JZG, and Kim N8YWX, to the list.
The Marine Race will be held August 19, 2000, we usually need about
6 people for the race. This year it will not be a 5 mile race,
instead it will be 3.1 mile race.

George KC8HFV, asked about the July 4th Parade, and Kim N8YWX, said
the Lions Club had not asked us yet. Kim felt sure that they would
be asking us, since they liked the help we have given in the past
for communications. Jerry WB8IOW, said we can use his trailer again
for the parade if we do it. George asked about us having a special
event during the parade, using a mobile in the vehicle pulling the
trailer. There was discussion about using the Ohio Bicentennial for
a special event in August at Lake Adams as we had last year.
Ed KE8FK, said we have to have the information in three months a
head of time. All will be tabled till March meeting. Also tabled
will be a report on the libraries.

George KC8HFV, will put something about the hamfest ideas in the
newsletter. If we were to do something like this, we would need the
help of the club members. Jerry WB8IOW, suggested we call it a swap,
flea market, trade around, instead of a Hamfest. This also will be
      discussed later on.

Linda KC8JZG, asked if we were going to have the chili supper this
year in October. The answer from George KC8HFV, was a big yes.

Jerry WB8IOW, said he would be going to a meeting with the new
Section Emergency Coordinator in Columbus. He would bring a report
back for us. Jerry is thinking of having a test session on March 25,
00, around 9:00 a.m. If anyone needs paper work for ULS, Jerry has
some and they do need to fill out if have not done so. Jerry needs
$33.00 for postage for the newsletter. Jerry has sent reminders to
people to rejoin the club. Jerry said we need to remind people that
the dues are due by February 29, 00

Lyle KC8DDY, stopped by the weather bureau station to get
information for a tour of the weather bureau. Lyle has the paperwork
for a tour, it is during business days only and needs to have 30 day
notice ahead of time. The first opening will be in July. Jerry
WB8IOW, said he would talk to Paul WB8ZZR, and see if we could have
a tour earlier than July. Jerry said most tours can handle about 20
      people.

Ed KE8FK, asked if the club would be interested in a talk about
satellites. He will try to set up a time with Bob K8YMI, to come and
      give a talk about satellites.

Kim N8YWX, had for her topic, CW Bingo. Kim went over a few easy
letters and the way they are sent with cw. Kim explained how the
game would be played and that the first two to win bingo got a
prize. Tony N8XGM, won first prize, Marlene KC8JXE, won second
prize, congratulation to both, and by the way the game was fun.
The prize was a Public Communication book and a tablet of radiogram
forms. George KC8HFV, asked if anyone wanted the month of March for
a topic. George said he would take the month of March for his topic.

Linda KC8JXG, did the split the pot, with Tony N8XGM drawing, the
winner again this month was Kyle West. Congratulations to Kyle who
won $8.50. Thanks to Pat KC8LVE for bringing the cookies. Lyle
KC8DDY adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m., Tony second and motion
      carried.
