"The Big Crash" June 30th, 1998 is a day I'll never forget. While at home doing paperwork in my shack / office, both of our dogs started barking in a panic from the kitchen. When I got to the top of the stairs and looked out the widow, there was so much green vegetation flying by, I almost didn't notice the trees leaning temporily at 45 degrees, and not swaying back and forth like in a normal windstorm. The howling winds outside were making the house creak. As I headed for the basement with the dogs, I thought for sure it was a tornado. As I looked out the basement I could tell that we were getting hit hard, and lots of trees were starting to topple over. Because of the debris flying by, I could just barely make out the 170' tower just 200' away from the house. I could tell it was still standing, then there was a flash, and all I could see was up to 100', then a second later it was gone!
