Welcome to Doug's K8DK Web Page
Hello and welcome! I have been an amateur radio operator since April, 1965. My first amateur callsign was WN8QHS. I also held callsigns of WA8QHS and KG8F. My new call was just issued in Nov, 1996 as K8DK.The DK stands for my initials. The first piece of amateur equipment I built was a tube type keyer for cw. I am still very interested in cw and I think it should be part of the amateur exam. I have tried all modes of operation. Radio teletype, Packet, Wefax, Amateur Television, Single Sideband, AM, FM, Moonbounce, and Amateur Satellites. Satellites have really caught my interest. My radio equipment, Icom 820H, Computer, Pentium-166, and antenna, M2 22 ele. 2 Mtr and 36 ele. 440 Mhz, are all interfaced together with a Kansas City Tracker/Tuner card for hands free operation. This system using Wisp software from Amsat allows the computer to point the antennas, change the radio's frequency and controls the PK-96 Tnc for automatic operation on 9600 baud packsats. Check out some the following Links for more satellite information..
There is a great deal of SSB and CW operation on many of the analog Satellites. A good way to get started in satellite activity is on the low bands. Try operating RS12/13 on 10 and 15 meters. 15 meters is the uplink and 10 meters is the downlink. Listen between 29.210-29.450 Mhz. for activity. The corresponding uplinnk is between 21.210 and 21.450. Check out N8ULU's Southeast Michigan Amsat Page Link below for more information on RS12/13
