W7HR Beacon - 1296.070 Mhz

My 1296 beacon is now on 1296.070 +/- about 5 kHz, depending on temperature.

It is located in CN87QN but beams at Mt. Rainier which is how most people

hear it. It runs 2 or 3 watts output to a 24 element loop yagi.

It is made from stock components: a DEM weak signal source (WSS1296) with

crystal special ordered for 1296.070, a DEM 3-watt amplifier (2303PA? I

don't see this on their price list anymore but maybe it can still be special

ordered), an Expanded Spectrum Systems keyer, and a small 13.5v switching

power supply from Jameco. The components are mounted in a plastic box up on

a tower in east Bremerton with a good view of the mountain. The antenna

came from Directive Systems. The beacon is handy for peaking your antenna

on the mountain before moving up to 1296.1 to make contacts.
