K7WV HAM RADIO AWARDS

Operating awards are a fun incentive to improve your station, stay active on the bands, and work toward a goal. Below you will find out about some of the awards achieved here at K7WV.  See bottom of this page for links to award programs.

Worked All States (WAS): #49,966 is dated 04 April 2000.  NH was the 50th state worked and MS was the last to be confirmed.  I began the quest for WAS on 15 August 1999.  All contacts were made on 10 - 40 meters using the 40-foot-long DXEE inverted vee dipole suspended above the rooftop, running 100 watts.  This is the basic mixed-band award with SSB endorsement.  I need only one more state (KY) for my 6-METER WAS, a distinct, separately numbered award.  Issued by the ARRL, a certificate and lapel pin are available.

VHF/UHF Century Club (VUCC):  50 Mhz #1105 is dated 11 January 2001 (the first issued in the 21st Century!) Modes of propagation included Sporadic E, Auroral E, Aurora, and F2.  Peak-of-cycle conditions helped make this one obtainable in only 8 months at this high latitude (47N) using a 3-element Cushcraft yagi. Qsl return rate with SASEs for all new grids was approx 82%, Issued by the ARRL, includes numbered certificate and pin. Endorsements in units of 25. (I have passed 150, need to get cards checked!)

Worked All Continents (WAC):  Phone is dated 23 February 2001. This was finally possible after building and installing the gain antenna for 10 meters in November 2000 (Unable to work Africa with the wire). Issued by the IARU.

DX Century Club (DXCC): The world's premier operating award! I worked the 100 needed countries/entities and finally received the cards (the hard part) for submission to the DXCC Desk for three versions of the award. Results: I now hold Mixed #38362, Phone #32686 and 10M #32065 DXCC certificates! Each are dated July 12 2002. The process took about 6 weeks. Like the VUCC, a numbered certificate and lapel pin are provided by the ARRL, one for each type of DXCC awarded. Click HERE for July 2002 DXCC List showing K7WV entries (PDF format).

10-10 Awards: The 10-10 organization has its own awards program for working its members on 10 meters. My station now has a number of these including the Countries Award # 571 and the Continents Award # 551. In 2002 the OM/XYL, Mobile, WPX, County Hunter, and VP-100 award certificates were added to the shack wall. You need to be a paid-up member with a 10-10 number to participate.  You can become a member with your own unique 10-10 number by working 10 different 10-10 members and sending in the list!

CQ Millennium Award: My certificate is for meeting requirements for the CQ DX Award (100 countries worked) during calendar year 2001. Issued by CQ-The Radio Amateur's Journal. I have yet to have the cards checked for the actual CQ DX Award.

Worked 100 Nations
Certificate offered by World Radio for working 100 sovereign nations.  I have worked the requisite 100 but still need some cards.  The official list of nations is here.  Same list applies for 31 on 31 award for working 31 nations with PSK31.
