To develop skills and techniques to locate radio transmitters as part of the Amateur
Radio Hobby. These skills are useful in helping to eliminate
repeater interference from simplex users who stray onto input
frequencies, users with equipment failures such as stuck microphones or
transmitters, and
serious malicious jammers.

In addition, there are amateur radio groups in the Puget Sound area that conduct
recreational hidden transmitter "Fox Hunts." Anyone interested should contact
