Ham Radio, This is
my story.
I was always interested in ham radio. But between not knowing how to get into
the hobby, And being afraid of failure, I never tested.
I became good friends with a man I used to work with in the Emergency Medical field.
When I decided to move 90 miles away, we lost our coffee every afternoon time that we had gotten used too.
One day soon after I moved he brought me a book, told me to read it, study it, and learn it.
The book was the ARRL tech class book.
This is when I found out he used to be a ham, but let his license lapse.
So I studied. A few months later (May of 1994) we both went to a local test session, and got our tech class license, and by stroke of luck, we ended up with consecutive call signs.
The next weekend he brought me an hf rig, and told me to start learning Morse code, by computer, and copying it off the air.
Five months later, (Oct of 94) I earned my general ticket. Two years after that, (June of 1996) I earned my advance class
ticket.
My original call was KC7EMR. The call is from Wyoming, as I have only been in N.C.. a little over a year.
When the vanity
calls came out, I applied and received my present call of K7EMR.
The main reason for this was shorter call and it fit on the Wyoming
vanity license plate.
