In December 1996, the Salem Amateur Television Group, a subgroup within the Salem Amateur Radio Club, became the independent Salem Amateur Television Association. SATVA is registered under the laws of the State of Oregon as an organization dedicated to Amateur Radio and Amateur Television in the greater Salem Area. Anyone interested in Amateur radio and television communication is invited to regular club meetings, held on the third Thursday of every other month, and other club activities as announced. Full Membership in SATVA requires a current F.C.C. Amateur Radio license, and includes participation in the club's ATV repeater and other Club activities, access to the SATVA library, the right to attend all meetings including the board of directors, and voting rights at General and Special meetings. Associate Membership is available to non-amateurs. Currently, SATVA does not assess annual dues from its members, relying on individual donations. Membership forms are available from the treasurer.
The newsletter of the Salem Amateur Television Association, Chroma, is occassionally edited by Al W7SHF. The newsletter is available to non-members on a limited subscription basis, but such subscribers shall have no membership rights. Contact Al for further information.
RENEWED REPEATER SYSTEM - In the Summer of 2007 we finished the latest version of our repeater and moved it to a site just a few feet from the last one, to improve performance and site access. We now operate a 910 FM ATV 600 watt transmitter into a 10 db vertical antenna. The receive is also improved, on 426.25 MHz VSB. The signal was tested at areas around our city and we were happy with the results. Our members are now in the process of refurnishing their stations to operate on the system.
SATVA members and guests participate in a TV net on Monday evenings near 7:15 PM with simplex operations on 146.43 MHz with a PL of 100 Hz. If you tune in to the SATVA repeater on 910 MHz FM, you may expect to find some of the members sending standard NTSC fast scan pictures to other Salem ATVers. We often turn on the link to Portand at that time and join in with the net activities in progress there.
