Wave to Hex file converter (version 1.4) |
I would like to thank Rich Williamson (KA7IEN) for writing this program. It is a DOS/Win95 executable file that converts 8kHz sample rate, 8-bit mono .WAV files into the .HEX format file that the Link-Comm DVR-1 can play directly. |
You *must* convert all .WAV files to 8 kHz sampling rate, 8-bit mono for the DVR-1 to play the file properly. I use a program called COOLEDIT to do this. It is available on the internet for download here. |

Run this program in the same directory that the target .WAV file is in. At the "Input Filename:" prompt, enter the source .WAV filename (example: speak.wav). At the "Output Filename:" prompt, enter the destination .HEX filename (example: speak.hex). At the "DVR Track Number:" prompt, enter the slot you want the message in (example: 001). The program will create a .HEX file that you can upload to the DVR-1 via the serial port. You'll have to use a terminal program like Telix or Procomm to do this. I know a guy that even used HYPERTERM to do the upload. You just have to put in delays (about 8ms after each Carriage Return). At the DVR> prompt, type X to delete any data in the existing DVR slot first, then U to upload the file. Hit the PAGEUP key in Telix or Procomm to ASCII upload the .HEX file. When it is done, type an asterisk * to finish the upload. The DVR-1 needs this to know that you are done uploading. That's it! |
