Hello!
Welcome to the future web home of Amateur Radio Station K5OOR,
located in Houston, Texas, U.S.A. Please check back over
the next several weeks, as I will be adding content as my schedule
permits. Thanks to QSL.net for making available this space for
us!
I am a Amateur Radio Retread. I was first licensed K5OOR in
1956 as a teenager. My first rig was a homebrew CW Novice rig
built by Herb Smith W5JUW. Later, after passing my 13 w.p.m. test
and getting my General Class, Herb built me a VFO and a AM Modulated
transmitter. Later, I built a Heathkit DX-40 and VF-1. with
the help of my dad, I put up a Windom Antenna on home-made wooden
supports. I worked a lot of 15 meter and 75 meter phone.
After high school, I joined the Navy, married, had kids and
let my ticket expire. I wasn't active, so I couldn't legally renew
it. So here I am, 45 years later and active again; after
taking my Extra Class exams and 5 wpm code test. My rig is a
QRP, Elecraft K2. I run CW, although I have the SSB
option.
I expect to add the extras including the QRO
amp/tuner and computer interface. I am a computer programmer and
electronics design engineer. I worked as a consultant in the
oil & gas industry for 25 years, before taking a real job. My
programming experience is with FORTH, C and Assembly language for a
variety of microprocessors.
I hold several patents,
including one in machine vision for traffic monitoring. I write MS
Windows based PC man/machine interface programs. I am interested in
homebrewing and I am currently developing a DDS VFO for test
equipment and/or local oscillator for mixers, etc. One of my short
term goals is to develop CCW hardware and/or software to permit
expanded use of CCW. I like 40, 17 and 20 meters. Look for me on
7040 around 22:30 CDT most nights. I am a new member of FISTS
International, member number 8137.
