I have been a Ham for about 41 years. As a kid, I started by tearing up old radios long before I knew anything about being an amateur radio operator. Mom and dad purchased a Hallicrafters S38-C receiver and I discovered Ham Radio. After high school, I went to the University of Houston and graduated from the School of Technology. I worked for Montgomery Ward for a couple of years and then I was able to get on with the Houston Police Department in the Communications Division. I served as a communications Officer for the next 23 years and retired in 1989.
Suzanne (WB5CHL) and I have been married about 36 years. Everyone in our family is a Ham. Jerianne (KB5GJG), Julie (KB5GJH), Jennifer (KA5QZW) and her husband, Tim (KC5WRN). Now, I'm working on the grandkids, four of them have already passed the written Novice test and are working on their code.
We are active on the air working 75 and 40 meters mainly. You will find us on 3953 in the early mornings and after 5 p.m. 'til around 10 p.m. when we move to 3963 with the Possum Trappers. During the day we usually migrate to 7228.5 or 7213. Hope to find you on one of these frequencies. We also monitor 146.72 (pl 123) and 443.1 (pl 123) almost 24-hours.
