Safety Measures for Preventing Violence
There is a rising concern from parents and community leaders across America. Their children are being hurt, and in places where they are supposed to be safe. The victims? Students in America's schools. The criminals? Students in America's schools. It is time to stop the crimes and the activities that lead up to them. It is time to stop school violence. Everyday life in America has been saturated with images of violence. Almost every student has seen a slasher film or violent acts simply on the evening news. Their parents seem not to care or notice. Most students either have access to a gun or know where they can buy one. Once again their parents do not teach them to respect guns and that killing is not as glamorous as the movies portray it. Degradation of American values can be tied into the increase of school violence. In the 1940's, a bad student was one who was disrespectful or did not bring their homework to class. In this day, kids bring semi-automatic weapons to school and simply go on murdering rampages. Should the parents be more involved? Most of the parents of the kids who committed acts of violence were not involved in their child's life and had no idea what violence they were capable of. Clearly there is a need for parents to be involved in the lives of their children. However, the school can also get involved to stop these acts from occurring. Most of the students that brought weapons to school with an intent to kill show warning signs long before any threat is there. If school administrators learned to recognize these signs, counseling could take place, and the student could get the help they need. Also most of these students were victims of bullying that were trying to show they were 'tough.' Mediating between students has been shown to reduce the amount and severity of conflicts between students. Other means can also reduce the acts of violence such as police officials in schools, alarms, and such devices as metal detectors. School violence will not go away without help from people in the community. Most people think shootings will not happen in their community, precisely what people in Littleton, Colorado thought the same thing. It is not the large cities that are having problems with shootings, because they are equipped with preventive measures. It is the little communities that deny a problem exists that these acts are occurring. This website is dedicated to stopping these acts from occurring.
