The UCARC sponsors a Hamfest each year (formally the second Saturday in December). This was started in 1995 and has been held each year until 2002 on this date. . This year the date has been moved to the first Saturday in April in hope of better weather and at the request of many of the venders that attend. The Hamfest site is located at the Union County Fairgrounds and is a Union County sponsored event. VE Testing by WCARS is conducted at the Hamfest each year. Testing will be at 11am in the Clemson building on the grounds. There is no copier so have all your paperwork ready and please have correct change ($8.00) or a check payable to WCARS-VEC. Click on HAMFEST above for directions. We look forward to seeing you on the 5th of April, 2003.
The UCARC participates each year in the ARRL Field Day activities. Our Field Day location is on the 176 by-pass in the parking lot of Paradise Home Center. ( Currently, we do not have an event scheduled this year. )
The UCARC is heavily involved with SKYWARN. Our members have been certified by the National Weather Service as official Severe Weather Spotters. During severe weather, members of the UCARC radio key information to the National Weather Service as well as the local Emergency Preparedness Division so that timely warnings can be given to the citizens of the Upstate. These activities occur during Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Watches and Warnings.
The members of the UCARC are Certified Radiological Monitors. We assist the local EPD as needed during drills or radioactive incidents.
The UCARC has provided strategic communications for local civic organizations during activities such as walk-a thons, etc.
The UCARC publishes a quarterly Newsletter containing information of intrest to the Amateur Community which is mailed to all members.
