Are You Ready ?

TOP TEN READY LIST

* The following order should be determined to suite your needs as they may apply.

Remember: Stay calm, Be focused and think things through before you take any action!

1. Have a "Family Emergency Plan" in place. This should include an immediate shelter location (in and out of the home).     What to do and where to go if family members are at work or in school or both. Have more than one method of communicating with family members.

2.   Have enough food and water for each family member +1 for at least 3 days.
*This should include any Medications that anyone may be            required to take.

3.   Have more than one source of heat and light in the event of extended power failures.

4.   Store extra blankets, pillows, sleeping bags etc in accessible locations during emergencies.

5.   Fist Aid Kit, ensure it is fully stocked AT ALL TIMES.

6.   Fire Extinguishers, check the pressure indicator at least every month. (Have more than one).

7.   Charge ALL batteries! (and keep a check on them as often as possible.

8.   Check operation of generators, heaters and flashlights monthly.

9.   Have extra fuel for generators, heaters and cooking devices.

10. Communications: Keep more than one "working" AM/FM radio to keep informed!   Two Way Radios, Antennas and power supplies (the more the better).   Do you have an Emergency backup cell phone? Never discard an old cell phone! It has value.  Even if you discontinued service, it WILL still call 911 (at no cost). If it is a handheld portable cell phone, try to keep a good battery on it and keep it charged!

Of course, one can never be too prepared for an emergency, but at least we can close the gap when compared to the general public.

     * Whenever you can, try to spend time "training" relatives, neighbors, friends and associates of how easy it is to be prepared. A little of your time might very well save someone's life some day.
