The Clay County Sixers came about when the original five members of the club, sitting around a table at the local IHOP, where discussing what new project they wanted to work on (aka: what to spend their money on).   Out of this discussion came the idea of putting up a 6 meter repeater and the Clay County Sixers club was formed to support it.   After a year of planning and working, the K4SIX repeater went on line 18 June 2000.

Located in Clay County Florida, just south of Orange Park, Florida, the K4SIX repeater consists of:

  • Tower, donated by the estate of K4SP: 70 feet of Rohn 25
  • Antenna: Hy-Gain V-6R 3db gain
  • Repeater: Motorola Micor
  • Controller: MCC RC-100
  • Duplexer: WB5WPA Heliax Duplexer

The Repeater was modified for the Amateur 6 meter band by Jeff DePolo, WN3A.   His excellent work produced a repeater with tighter specifications than the original Motorola specifications. The Duplexers were built by Dan Magers, N5MRG, of 1 5/8 inch hardline.   We couldn't ask for a better setup. The antenna system consists of a 70 foot tower, set in two yards of concrete, with a Diamond 6db antenna.   Between the top of the tower and the antenna is 15 feet of thick walled stainless steel pipe (purchased in New Jersey by Dudley, N4DPD, and transported to the Dayton Hamfest where Roger, WA4UKJ, picked it up for transport to Orange Park).   The hole was dug by Dave, N4VIL, and Bill, KB7MSC, and the concrete was poured by Larry - W1LR, Jake - K5WTA, Pete - N6PRS, Dudley - N4DPD, and Roger - WA4UKJ.   The tower and original antenna were installed by Scott, KE4CUA, and the antenna was replaced by Bill, KB7MSC.   The top of the antenna is at 101 feet and fed with 1/2 inch hardline. This repeater is a culmination of many hours of work by many people.   The repeater has a wide coverage into Clay, Duval and St Johns Counties in North Eastern Florida with no TVI on the XYLs tv.

The Clay County Sixers club is open to all people interested in 6 meter operations and currently has 15 members.   We meet every Sunday morning at 0800 at the IHOP on Blanding in the Michaels Shopping Center.   There are no dues and all you have to do to join is send an Email to [email protected].   Newsletters may come out whenever we get around to it and are distributed by Email.

In July 2018 the power supply on the repeater failed. After 18 years on the air, the repeater is down and will not come back up. The reason for this is that many of the original people who put the repeater on the air have passed away or lost interest in it. However, the club will remain in existance to keep the K4SIX-1 digipeter on the air. The digipeter consists of a 40 year old Kenwood 2-meter rig with 24 watts out. The TNC is a KCP-3 through 120 feet of buryflex coax to a Motorola commercial antenna at 70 feet.
