What is "Kilo - Four - Lima?"

Kilo - Four - Lima, or "K4L" is a call sign granted by the Federal Communications Commission for a Special Event amateur radio station which will be transmitting from the vicinity of New Point Lighthouse on August 18 and 19, 2001.

Members of the Richmond Amateur Telecommunications Society, aware of the plight of New Point Comfort Lighthouse, have joined forces with the Mathews County Historical Society in hopes of raising public awareness about the immediate challenges the local treasure faces.

Transmissions will begin at or before 8:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, August 17, 2001 and continue non-stop until 8:00 p.m. EDT Sunday, August 18, 2001.  The K4L team will be transmitting on or near the following frequencies: 28.363, 21.363, and 14.263 MHz USB, and7.263 & 3.863 MHz LSB.
