Biographies

 

Tony Day - KC4AUF

Team Leader and Technical Coordinator

Tony Day brings a world of experience to the K4L team.  Having headed I.O.T.A. DXexpeditions to Smith Island, Roanoke Island, and St Lucia Island in the West Indies, he has also bagged DXCC on five bands and made contacts with over 300 DX countries. Tony and his wife, Becky, are avid hams and accomplished contesters.  An ARRL Life Member, Tony has become an Elmer to many newer amateur radio operators, teaching them to follow in his steps of 14 years of accomplishments in amateur radio. Tony is an Amateur Extra Class licensee.

 

 

Guy Carlsen - KC7AIW

Assistant Team Leader and QSL Manager

Guy Carlsen has been around the amateur radio community since 1976. First licensed in 1994 he has been active in clubs in Tacoma, Washington and now Richmond, Virginia.  He serves on the board of directors for the Richmond Amateur Telecommunications Society, a sponsor of the K4L team.  Guy is pursuing his amateur interests by working toward his DXCC on ten meters and WAS.  He also has a passion for antenna design and QRP (low power transceivers.)  Guy is a General Class licensee.

 

 

Stan Sitnik - KG4JMY

Team Member

Stan Sitnik is relatively new to the amateur radio community. As a skilled outdoorsman and a chemical engineer for a major manufacturer, Stan brings a unique mixture of technical orientation and outdoor skill to the K4L team, ensuring its New Point Island mission to be a success. Stan is married and has a two-year-old son. Holding a BS in Engineering from University of Virginia, he enjoys making home-brew antennae. Stan is a Technician Class licensee.

 

 

 

Chris Waters - KG4OQN

Team Member

The newest amateur radio operator joining the K4L team is Chris Waters.  A master electrician with over ten years experience, he has found it easy to take his skills and apply them to electronics and radio theory.  Chris is a General Class licensee. 

 

 

 

Andrew Slater -KG4GNL

Team Member and Web Master

Don't let size or age fool you - at 12 years of age, Andrew Slater is fast becoming an accomplished amateur radio operator.  First licensed at age 10, Andrew now holds a General Class license.  He has received the WAS award and is fast working toward DXCC.  He has built a QRP (low power) radio and spends the majority of his radio time on the HF bands.  Andrew is accomplished at CW (Morse Code), working several foreign countries in that mode.  He has now begun work toward his Extra Class license and is web master for the K4L team.

 

 

Parke Slater - KG4GLU

Logistics Coordinator

Parke Slater's affinity for Mathews County began with two stints there as a State Game Warden.  Now residing in Sandston, he became aware of New Point Comfort Light's plight through the local Mathews paper.  Looking for a way to utilize his amateur radio skills and the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society's ILLW event to bring the public's eye on New Point Comfort Lighthouse, Parke has been a catalyst, working with Coast Guard and county officials to bring the K4L team together.  He is a General Class licensee.
