Despite some of the worst weather of the season, the K4L team achieved their objectives on New Point Island.  The team garnered six newspaper articles in three newspapers, plus a segment on NBC affiliate WWBT 12 in Richmond, VA.

The crown jewel of the exposure in the print media was a visit to the island by staff from the Richmond Times Dispatch, Virginia's largest newspaper.  Reporter Andrew Petkofsky and photographer Alexa Welch-Edlund navigated through thunderstorms and three-foot seas via Coast Guard boat to cover the event.  The resulting story  netted a 5x7 photograph on the front page of the TD's Sunday edition, with an inside photograph of team members Andrew Slater and Tony Day operating an HF station.

The WWBT segment presented an interview with team leader Tony Day and with lighthouse officials from Mathews County. Reporter Gene Lepley was taken by boat to the lighthouse to cover the story.

The attention the media afforded effort brought New Point Comfort Lighthouse from obscurity into the living rooms of tens of thousands of Virginians.  Credit goes to each media outlet for the coverage they rendered.

The media responsible for the success of the K4L effort are:

Mathews - Gloucester Gazette Journal

The Daily Press

The Richmond Times Dispatch

The Mechanicsville Local

WWBT 12 Richmond

Thanks is also extended to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and U.S. Coast Guard Station Milford Haven, without whose willingness to shuttle the K4L team and their gear to New Point Island, the mission would not have been possible.
