Friends Keeping In Touch via Amateur Radio and RVs

The RV Radio Network (RVRN) is an ARRL affiliated association of Amateur Radio Operators who share an interest Recreational Vehicles. Here you will find information about rallies, hamfests, radio nets, and other activities of interest to the members of our club. We invite all Amateur Radio Operators with an appropriate FCC license to participate in the RVRN 40m net on about 7264 KHz at pm Central Time Sunday through Friday, and in our Multi-mode EchoLink net each Thursday at 8:00 PM Central Time on the *SELINK* node. Our Net Control Operators KA2HPG, AI1N, K5TGS, W8TJT, KC1M, N3YRZ, KC5MEM, and KC9OO are waiting to talk to you. And we are always looking for Alternate NCOs and relay stations, so if you would like to help out please contact our Communications Manager Fred, KA2HPG.

From a QRZ search, we recently learned of the passing of Bill Fater, K5EDR   Bill and his XYL Irene were members of the San Antonio TX Good Sam Chapter where In 1983 a group of ham members formed the Good Sam Hams HF net known as the Good Sam Hams. In 1986 when the net grew 150 members, too large for the chapter to support, they became a separete organization called The Good Sam RV Radio Network. The 10 chapter members who started the net became the founders of the new organizatioin and were assigned the first 10 Net Numbers.

Hal Cummings - KJ4TD

Hal was one of 10 founding fathers of the RV Radio Network. He was the newsletter editor of the San Antonio Good Sam Chapter that spawned the RV Radio Network and he became the first editor of the Good Sam RV Radio Network when it was formed, holding that position until fall of 2010. He was also a net control op on our HF nets for many years and was known for aways having a trivia question for net participants. Until recently Hal was a frequent check-in on the RVRN EchoLink Net. His XYL Betty, KE4NXF, became a SK in September of 2020.

Dave became an RVRN member in late 1987 as K8ESO. He and his wife Charlotte (N5TKY) were active RVRN members and RVing snowbirds for many years. Dave passed peacefully at his home in Inglis, FL under Hospice care. He is survived by his XYL of 68 years Charlotte, son Mark and his brother Dan (RVRN Member Number 1214). His ashes will be interred at a local military cemetery.

FCC to Require Email Addresses on Applications

Amateur radio licensees and candidates will have to provide the FCC with an email address on applications, effective sometime in mid-2021. If no email address is included, the FCC may dismiss the application as defective..........

Revocation of the station license or suspension of the operator license may result when correspondence from the FCC is returned as undeliverable because the grantee failed to provide the correct email address."

ARRL Website Security Software Update Could Affect Certain LoTW ADIF Downloads

The ARRL website updated its security software on October 15 in order to meet standards required to continue accepting credit cards for internet purchases. ARRL Information Technology Department Manager Mike Keane, K1MK, said that the upgrade should not affect the vast majority of members, beyond a guarantee of better security on the website.
