Current Activities

All items below have click-able links, please review and participate in all GARS activities if possible.  Bring a friend, bring a neighbor, bring a youth that might be interested in science or electronics, all are welcome.

*** GARS will participate in the 5 Points of Life marathon on February 15, 2015.  Volunteers are need to man numerous communication stations along the route.

*** NEWS FLASH:  GARS recently submitted paperwork to Yeasu USA to participate in a program to purchase Ueasu System Fusion DR-1X repeaters at a greatly reduced introductory price.
The club repeater trustee, Shannon Boal K4GLM has been notified that GARS has been approved to purchase 4 each of these repeaters.  These units will enable the club to replace all of its

Exsisting repeaters with state of the art new units.  Delivery is expected in late February 2015.

 

***  The annual GARS HamFest will be held on Saturday April 15th, 2015.  The event will again be held at the Waldo First Baptist Church in Waldo, FL.  Please mark your calenders and save the date.

Meeting Schedule

GARS regular meetings are held on the Third Wednesday of each month (except December) at 6:30 pm local time at the AvMed Building, Health Care Park, 4300 NW 89th Blvd, Gainesville, FL.  Talk-in is on 146.820(-) MHz (Tone 123.0)Please check the repeater periodically for an announcement, as the location or time might change. All interested in Amateur Radio communications are welcome to attend the meetings.

GARS Executive Board meetings are generally held on the First Thursday of the month.  THe month of July will change due to the July 3 being on a holiday week.  The new date will be meeting will be on the following Thursday evening, July 10th, at 7PM. These locations are subject to change and will be announced 3 to 4 weeks prior to the meeting date.  The Current location is: David ( WB9UYK) Birge's House - 8015 SW 51st BLVD in the Stillwater Subdivision Click on link to see a map of location.  The time of the meeting will be 7:00 PM  (Depending upon your internet provider this map may work)

All club members are invited to attend the meeting and participate in the discussion!

To apply for membership to GARS or to update your membership information (mailing address, callsign, e-mail address), please complete the GARS application form (PDF). Family memberships are available, please complete the GARS family membership form (PDF). You may print the appropriate form and bring the completed form with $25 ($35 for family membership) to the next GARS general meeting, executive board meeting or mail to: P.O. Club Awards

Yearly the Gainesville Amateur Radio Society honors outstanding members for there accomplishments and work in club functions & the ham community as a whole. They are the Most Outstanding Members (A.K.A Ham of the Year) and the Bill Wells Memorial Award. To see list of past Recipients & related information.

GARS Logos

You can now download online a GARS Color Logo or a Black + White Logo for your QSL card or stationary.

Testing - Upgrading - Licensing

Local hams have formed a ARRL VE team that host monthly ham radio license examinations on either the 1st or 2nd Saturdays of most months.  The dates vary depending on holiday weekends, Volunteer Examiner availability, Gator football, etc.
