To the Members-
SFDXA MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT
The next meeting of the South Florida DX Association will be
held on
Wednesday evening, May 6, at the Florida Medical Center (FMC)
Auditorium in
Lauderdale Lakes (5500 West Oakland Park Blvd. adjacent to the
Florida
Turnpike). Members and guests will gather at 6:00pm for our
bi-monthly
fixed-price dinner ($7 per person). As usual, our meeting and
program will
begin at 7:33pm.
We are honored to have George Wallner (AA7JV) as our featured
speaker at
this month's meeting. George just returned from the Coral Sea
where he and
Tomi Pekarik (HA7RY) staged their VK9GMW DXpedition to Mellish
Reef. George
will describe how they had to battle the weather, equipment
failure, the
lack of a tent (!) and numerous other hardships on their way to
more than
20,000 QSOs (including more than 2,000 Q's on 160m). Don't miss
what
promises to be a great story!
The SFDXA "DX Hog" Award will be presented at our May meeting.
Who will win
this year? Come to our May 6th meeting and find out!
As announced at our March meeting, the SFDXA is planning to
offer a "DX
University" instructional program if members express sufficient
interest.
Want to improve your pileup success rate? Figure out when that
rare DX
station will be on the air? Get those all-important QSLs? We
are planning
a series of classes that will prove particularly useful for the
inexperienced DXer, covering tactics and strategies that may
take you years
of trial and error to learn otherwise. Whether you are a "Big
Gun" or a
"Little Pistol", these classes will give you tips to make your
DXing more
productive and rewarding. Classes are tentatively planned for
the first
Wednesday evening of even numbered months (June, August, etc.)
at 7:30pm at
a location to be determined in central or east Broward.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please contact me or Ed Callaway (N4II) at our May meeting (or
by email) to
sign-up since we need a count of participants.
I look forward to seeing each of you on May 6th at FMC!
73,
Ray - N4RU
SFDXA President
