Please read the following. I respect Jim and the way he operates the net. I have asked him to  help our new county hunters with some points of interest. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME AND READ. THANKS

Thank you for the opportunity to post my thoughts on your Web Page. KZ2P/K2JG

First and foremost everyone should remember that we are there to have fun and try to help each other.  Collecting counties is ONLY a by-product of having fun.  Remember the golden rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”  Be courteous of the other participants and 99% of them will respond in a like manner.

Although the Net is run in an informal and “easy going” manner, there are occasions when time constraints must be instituted to ensure that every one has an opportunity to work that elusive county.  When the net control must limit the mobile’s run, it is incumbent on every one to refrain from monopolizing the mobile’s “run time” with questions or special requests.  Remember there are others who would also like to confirm that county.  I am sure that most of the participants understand and agree with this procedure.

Here are a couple of tips for the net participants:

1) This is not a DX operation.  Call once, without phonetics, and wait for a response.  If you are not recognized, call again.  If the mobile needs assistance with your call, then assist him/her with phonetics.

2) Don’t tail-end or call on top of someone else’s contact.

3) When the net control calls for either relays or questions, respond with your call using.  It is much easier to recognize a call using than it is when several people are talking at the same time.

4) When you are being relayed to a mobile wait for the net control or assistant net control to ask you to send your signal report.  This eliminates the possibility of “doubling” and any wasted time associated with repeating the entire relay process.  Also, if you are aware that the mobile did not receive your report correctly, advise the net control but DO NOT just give another report.  Most of the time the mobile station is not listening for another report and will not hear you.

5) Please wait until the end of the mobile’s run to ask any questions.  If the mobile is out of time, please move him/her to another frequency to ask your questions.  Be considerate of others.

6) If you send an MRC direct to a mobile be sure to enclose your QSL card for first time contacts and ALWAYS send a SASE.

Here a couple of tips for mobile operators:

When you are running a county, give your call using and the name of the county after every 3 or 4 contacts.  This will help reduce the number of questions – Where are you?  What’s your call?  Of course there is always the question of why did you work someone if your did not’t know who hey were or where they were???

Remember the Purpose of the Net's is to provide Emergency Service to Mobile Operators during there travels. Chasing the County's is what we do when there is no Emergency. I can remember : that is what I thought until I heard a Station mention what the net is for. I guess I just assumed that it was for chasing counties.

I have had to use the service while is was mobile and I can tell you it work's.

Running your county. Both NC and ANC stations will announce your CALL, COUNTY AND STATE. Please during the run do the same. About every 5-6 contact do this and you will notice that there is less confusion on the net and even on the MRC'S that you have to sign.

First time QSL Cards. What is the recommend practice? Most good County Hunters will send you a first time QSL with there MRC'S that they mail direct. So first of all make sure that everyone has your current address. Also when you mail out MRC'S please do the same. Don't expect that everyone will and don't get mad. Just keep working the County's.

As a mobile, you will not get as many MRC'S to sign as you think. Why? Because of the various types of awards that are offered. Let's see, there is the all one band, all one mode, all teams, all mobile to mobile, all county lines, all USACA holders, and then there is Bingo and. To make it short and sweet. Those that mail you MRC'S are most likely working on there first time around. REMEMBER THAT FIRST TIME IS MUST CONFIRMATION.
