Hi Folks - I'm Larry Belcher, K4CL, located in Kingsport, TN. Not that I am prejudiced or anything but with the mountains, lakes, and change of seasons there just isn't a prettier place to live! It all adds to the enjoyment of life. Living close to the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains sure makes you glad and appreciative to put your feet on the floor in the mornings. Not to mention I'm only about 80 miles northeast of Ten-Tec in Sevierville. I have been a "ham" since 1963. I got my novice ticket, WN4QDQ, while in the United States Air Force. I returned to Kingsport in 1963 with a love for CW and it hasn't changed in 40 years. I dropped the "N" for an "A" when I upgraded to General class WA4QDQ in 1963. In 1977, after I had become an Extra Class, and the "N" prefixes had become available, I changed my call to N4OI. It sure did help in the DX pileups. WA4QDQ was a "hand full" on CW and signing N4OI sure made it more enjoyable. In 2000 I again changed calls, this time to K4CL - I'm still trying to get used to it on CW. Old habits are hard to change. I retired from the FAA after 38 years in Air Traffic Control on April 1, 2001. I still miss the people but I am really settling into the retirement thing. I was one of the lucky people who enjoyed his occupation from the time I started until the day I retired. My main Ham Radio interest is chasing DX and general rag chewing on CW. I am supposed to brag some here but really don't have that much to brag about or like doing it. A couple of my achievements are: DXCC Honor Roll (CW and Mixed) 5BDXCC (CW) If you hear 7O (Yemen), BS7 (Scarborough Reef), or P5 (North Korea) on CW give me a call. That would finish me out but then what would I chase? I think most everyone has worked 7O on CW but me. MY FAMILY - Over 43 years ago I married my high school sweetheart - she is not only my beautiful wife but also my best friend. We have two lovely daughters, one living in Las Vegas, NV with two grandsons, Joshua and Joseph, and a granddaughter Olivia. The other daughter lives in Peoria, IL with a grandson Noah and granddaughter Abby. Now you don't have to wonder what I do in retirement.
